Happy Throwback Thursday everyone! On this day in history, Benjamin Franklin discovered the key to storm movement.

You see, on November 2, 1743 he had predicted an eclipse and it ended up happening, yet the clouds blocked his viewing area in Philidelphia, PA. He noticed winds were moving to the northeast. Somehow, Benjamin's brother saw the eclipse in Boston, Mass. Then, his brother told Benjamin that a rainstorm had occurred just a few hours after Benjamin had seen it in PA. Benjamin made the conclusion that since the storm had winds to the NE, the storm must have also been moving NE towards Boston. This is how Benjamin Franklin discovered how storms move. Truly a breakthrough in the early times of meteorology.

To learn more about this event, there are many wonderful articles. It is called "Benjamin's Eclipse Hurricane"
